This piece really made me think how complex the cyber world is! You always pull together such vital info, but the AI-driven wiretapping for ICE is certainly a tough pill to swallo.
Thank you. I have little knowledge of cyber security matters and appreciate your answers. I can only imagine how government works but in my previous career we did have ad hoc committees and brainstorming sessions that looked at matters in discussion. Provided no one strayed too far from the subject matter identified.
No problem! Always happy to answer questions. The government's committees are not too dissimilar. They have briefs for every meeting and are pretty formalized from what I've been able to gather. The management of cyber security in government is divided across multiple agencies and ministers, so they have to do a lot of interdepartmental coordination and cooperation, which is easier said than done.

Thank you. Does the government have committees that address concerns on cyber security matters? Such as subject matter experts outside of government?

There is no specific House of Commons committee for cyber security, but it is always topic-dependent. The National Defence Committee has previously studied cyber security and cyber defence, for which I provided testimony along with industry and government officials (https://www.ourcommons.ca/Content/Committee/441/NDDN/Reports/RP12548256/nddnrp05/nddnrp05-e.pdf).
And the Public Safety and National Security Committee are currently the one studying Bill C-8. (https://www.ourcommons.ca/committees/en/SECU/StudyActivity?studyActivityId=13156377)
In the federal bureaucracy there are cyber security committees of Deputy Ministers and Associate Deputy Ministers, which essentially are committees to help coordinate activities. (It’s a complex, inarcticulate and cumbersome system: https://www.cyberincontext.ca/p/the-rudderless-management-of-canadian?r=23ti9l
