Canadian Cyber in Context in 2026
Bringing you more with Canadian Cyber in Context in the New Year
I would first like to thank all of you for subscribing to Canadian Cyber in Context. I first started Canadian Cyber in Context in 2023 as a place to post writings and thoughts that were never meant to be published in more formal venues. Since then, the number of individuals from across industry and government who have subscribed to and support my work has been heartwarming and totally unexpected.
As 2025 was a major growth year for Canadian Cyber in Context, I thought I should also introduce myself a bit. I am Alex Rudolph, and I am a doctoral candidate in the final phases of my PhD program in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University. I have actively been researching and studying Canadian cyber security and cyber defence policy since 2017, but I have had an interest in the role of hacking, information security and cyber-related issues in international relations and public policy since the 2000s. In the absence of academic opportunities or serious engagement by Canada’s strategic studies community concerning cyber defence, I created Canadian Cyber in Context to create my own space and fill a gap that I knew was in demand.
Unfortunately, over the last couple of years I have had a host of health issues that now means I am disabled which significantly impacts my public engagement. Canadian Cyber in Context has helped me to remain active in this space and I want to continue to grow and providing a service. Ultimately, your continued support and engagement are what encourage me to continue this work and try to help fill the gap in coverage of Canadian public policy on cyber security and cyber defence. In 2026, I will continue to do so and aim to deliver more.
What can you expect in 2026?
Monthly research articles
The core of activity on Canadian Cyber in Context will remain the same, providing at least one research article a month on a topic I find interesting or relevant.
To supplement this, based on the reader survey, there is an interest in having reader-suggested articles. This will be incorporated in the future.
Compliance Is Cash (Working Title): Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification (CPCSC) and GRC
Following very strong, positive feedback and support for December’s CPCSC Update, we will continue with regular updates on CPCSC. Andrew Laliberte of Andyman Tech Solutions Ltd will be the primary author behind these updates. These updates will be semi-regular and not have a regular posting cycle, but the aim is to have more regular content concerning CPCSC and broader associated federal government compliance space.
A return of the News Rewire - Now Weekly!
I previously experimented with monthly news aggregation, which I will be bringing back in 2026. The goal is to provide weekly news aggregation of stories I think are particularly relevant to Canada or Canada-related cyber defence news.
An anonymized Q&A will also be integrated into the News Rewire.
Special Series Content
Less regular, but special series content, including:
Interviews with notable people in industry and government
There was some interest in doing general Q&As, but I am unsure of the full interest of this so I will first include it in the Weekly News Rewire
CAF Cyber History Project will have some outputs this year, so stay tuned!
